New features of Iowa Pork Industry Center (IPIC) Group Tracker software will be presented. Discussion will highlight the benefits of building and analyzing a database of your operations closeouts to improve your management decisions.

AmeriCorps NCCC Members Travel Far to Provide Service

The AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC) is sending a dedicated and eager team to Warsaw, Ohio. The NCCC team, Maple 1, is at Youth Camp Echoing Hills, where they are renovating and preparing the camp for the summer season.

Grandparents are playing a bigger financial role in the lives of their grandchildren. “The economic strain is prompting more grandparents to pitch in and pay for everything from toys to insurance to college tuition,” says Brenda Schmitt, ISU Extension Family Finance Specialist.
For some grandparents this is a financial mistake that could put their own financial future in jeopardy.
Schools invited to participate in Prepare for the Basics give-away
State Treasurer Michael L. Fitzgerald is offering free pencils to schools across Iowa for use in Kindergarten Round-Up through the Prepare for the Basics program. "Our schools know inviting families to check out their school six months before the school year begins will help kindergarteners prepare for their big transition," Fitzgerald said.
UNI names area students to Fall 2011 semester Dean's List
The following students from the area are among the students named to the Fall 2011 semester Dean's List at the University of Northern Iowa.
To be included on the list, a student must have earned a grade point of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, while taking at least 12 hours of graded work during the semester. On the 4.0 system, an A is worth four points; a B, three points; a C, two points, and a D, one point.
Karleigh Miller Competes in National Mock Trial Competition
Karleigh Miller, a native of Keystone and junior at Central College, will compete with the Central College mock trial team at the American Mock Trial Association Opening Round Championships (ORCs) hosted by the University of Calif.-Irvine March 10-11 in Newport Beach, Calif.
Central's nine-member squad received an at-large bid to the ORC following regional competition and will face off against 23 teams from across the nation for the chance to advance to the AMTA National Championship Tournament.

Benton County Conservation is presently accepting applications for the positions of Seasonal Conservation Park Aids. Successful applicants must be able to lift 50lbs or more, have a valid driver’s license, the ability to work outside mowing, custodial work, maintaining park equipment/facilities and be flexible in working evenings and weekends as needed.
Internship applications are due March 15
Applications for summer internships with Senator Chuck Grassley are due March 15.
Internships are available for college age Iowans in Grassley offices in Washington, D.C., Cedar Rapids, Council Bluffs, Davenport, Des Moines, Sioux City and Waterloo. There are two sessions for 2012 summer internships. The first is May 21 through July 3.
